SUMMER YOUTH BOWLING LEAGUE OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP MONEY
Wickliffe Lanes is hosting a new Junior bowling league this summer that will award participants over $2,000 in scholarship money. Junior Scholarship Singles is a USBC sanctioned singles format handicap league open to bowlers ages 12 and up. The 13 week league is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings beginning May 15th and ending August 7th. Registration is open now.
Scholarships will be managed in collaboration with the Scholarship Management and Account Report for Tenpins (SMART) founded by the United States Bowling Congress. Funds can be used for tuition, books, housing, meal plans, and class supplies for completion of courses at universities, colleges, business, technical, trade, and vocational schools and continuing education courses. Funds are paid directly to the educational institutions through SMART.
“We are seeing an upward trend in Junior Bowling, thanks in part to the Ohio High School Athletic Association,” says Jeff Gierman,
Wickliffe Lanes Manager. “We want to support our student bowlers in their college educations and keep them involved in the sport year round.” The OHSAA recognized bowling as an interscholastic sport in 2006. There are currently over 200 Ohio high schools that compete.
Organizations looking to contribute to the Junior Scholarship Singles league fund may contact Wickliffe Lanes.
